How to apply for Financial Aid
Students must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
every academic year to receive federal and state grants, loans and work/study employment.
Step 1: Federal Application
Students submit their FAFSA form electronically by visiting the FAFSA on the WEB site at www.fafsa.ed.gov. This is the fastest way to apply for financial aid because any errors or missed information will be identified before the form is accepted. The possibility of the data being rejected is reduced.
Be certain to enter Lone Star College-Tomball's school code: E00720.
The Department of Education sends the student a Student Aid Report (SAR) and Lone Star College-Tomball receives an Institution report on which the student's data is summarized.
Students carefully read page 4 of the SAR for additional information needed, then make corrections, and submit the revised form through FAFSA on the Web.
Step 2: Financial Aid Packet
If you are a new student submit the Lone Star College System Application for Admission and the Lone Star College Financial Aid Worksheet. Returning students need an updated Lone Star College System Admissions Application and the annual Financial Aid Worksheet.
The Financial Aid Worksheet is available in Enrollment Services or can be downloaded by clicking on Forms Databank . The Application for Admissions is available online via MyRecords, Lone Star College System's portal for student services on the Web.
To insure your award is applied by payment deadlines, applications must be received by the Priority Deadlines which are April 30 for the Fall term and October 30th for the Spring term.
Step 3: Eligiblity Determination
Completed Financial Aid Packets may require 6-8 weeks processing time to determine eligibility. Students will receive an email notification* for the following:
1) Missing Information Letter - requesting additional documentation
(2) Award Notification Letter - Amounts are posted in MyRecords
(3) Non-Eligible Letter - Notification of loan eligibility only
Step 5: FFEL Loans
To apply for a loan:
(1) Complete all steps 1-4 above and receive a determination of grant eligibility
(2) First time borrowers are required to attend a Loan Entrance session
(3) Returning borrowers can obtain a loan application at the Enrollment Services desk.
(4) Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 at any Lone Star College System college
(5) Be currently enrolled for at least 6 credit hours
(6) Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
Loan applications may take at least 10 - 15 working days to process and loan monies cannot be released until 30 days after classes begin.
For information on summer loan eligibility please contact the Financial Aid Office.
Step 6: Electronic Funds Transfer
Funds are dispersed by means of Electronic Funds Transfer. Completion of the Direct Card Authorization form is required.
Funds may be dispersed via paper check if indicated on the Loan Certification Request form.
* All emails will be sent to the LoneStar.edu email address assigned to each student upon enrollment to the college.
NOTE: If a student does not wish to use the LoneStar.edu assigned email address they must update their preferred email address via MyRecords.
