NOTE: To help us adequately prepare for your sessions, please try to schedule classes at least 48 hours in advance.

English 1301 and Basic Library Research Sessions
- Locate the library's instructional Web page on Current Issues
- Identify what is included in the following search tools and how to access them:
- Online library catalog
- ProQuest-PA II online database
- Google Web search engine
- Off-campus access databases appropriate to their topic
- Select appropriate key words and/or related words to use in searches based on the student's topic
- Execute an appropriate search in the search tools using search tips provided
- Select relevant titles for research needs from the search results
- Locate availability information for search results if full-text is not available on computer
- Locate subjects or related words used by search tools (if available) to search for further information
- Identify information needed to cite a selected resource
- Evaluate information resources for one or more of the following elements related to a student's research topic:
- reliability
- balance
- currency
- purpose
- appropriateness
- Indicate methods for contacting librarians to receive additional help
