Admission Requirements
  • Complete all admission requirements to be a student at Lone Star College System including submission of official transcripts from all non-Lone Star College System colleges and universities attended.

  • Attend an Information Session (required)

  • Pass TASP/THEA (or other approved test) and/or complete the Lone Star College System Student Success Initiative (see advisor or counselor for your status)


  • Prior to applying for the nursing program, complete the following courses with a grade of C or higher:
    BIOL2401 Human Anatomy and Physiology I
    BIOL2402 Human Anatomy and Physiology II
    PSYC2301 General Psychology
    PSYC2314 Lifespan Growth & Development
    ENGL1301 Composition and Rhetoric I
    RNSG1301 Pharmacology

     

  • Complete other required courses (not required at time of application but strongly recommended):

           BIOL 2420 Medical Microbiology

           SOCI 1301 Intro to Sociology

           SPCH 1311 Intro to Speech or SPCH 1318 Interpersonal Communication

           Fine Arts/Humanities elective (see list on page 90 of Lone Star College System catalog)

           Kinesiology Physical Activity couse (1 credit hour)

  • Average GPA on all completed academic courses in the nursing major (except KINE) must be 2.5 or higher.
  •  

  • Complete the standardized Nursing Admissions Exam in reading, grammar and mathematics. The exam is only available during the application period (January - February). The cost of the test is $23 and is the responsibility of the applicant. All Nursing applicants must take the Admissions Exam. There are NO EXCEPTIONS! A study guide is on reserve at the NHC Library or for purchase on-line at www.hesitest.com, then click on ordering > study tools for students > admission assessment

 

  • Submit a complete application packet, including pre-admission checklist, advising profile, academic evaluation for nursing, and admission testing results to the Nursing Advisor in Winship 107C by the deadline. Applications will be available on the Nursing website in January and will be due in March.  We do not take applications at any other time.

 

  • All Biology courses accepted into the Nursing program must be completed no more than 5 years prior to the date of application (2003). Those with outdated Biology courses can retake the course or complete an online Biology review course thru the Continuing Education Department (281-618-5657).

 

  • All students are required to have a satisfactory criminal back ground check prior to acceptance in the Nursing Program. Any student who has a felony or misdemeanor conviction must have approval through the Board of Nurse Examiners' Declaratory Order process. To begin the process, go to www.bne.state.tx.us. Click on Forms, the Declaratory Order.
  • All students must have completed the Hepatitis B immunization series after they have been admitted into the program. This is a 6-month process, so start early!
  •  

A grade below a C in any course required in the Associate Degree Nursing degree plan will not be accepted.

ALL required Biology courses must be completed no more than five (5) years prior to admission to the program.
